Uttar Pradesh begins renewed verification drive to ensure error-free voter lists
Lucknow The timeline for filling the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) forms has been officially extended by 15 days, following fresh instructions from the Election Commission of India. The announcement was made on Thursday by Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa during a video conference with all District Election Officers (DEOs).
Focus on Purifying Voter Lists
Rinwa emphasised that the extension aims to ensure that the ongoing SIR process is completed in an organised manner and that the state’s voter rolls are updated with maximum accuracy.
All DEOs have been directed to reverify deceased, shifted, and absentee voters in their constituencies with full seriousness, ensuring that no discrepancies remain.
He also instructed officials to work closely with Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by recognised political parties and to identify untraceable or unverified voters. “Every such voter must be approached and their enumeration form must be filled,” he added.
Ensuring No Eligible Voter Is Left Out
The Chief Electoral Officer reiterated that creating a completely accurate and purified voter list is a shared responsibility.
“No eligible citizen should be deprived of becoming a voter, and no ineligible person should get enrolled,” he said, urging all officials involved in SIR to carry out their duties with honesty and diligence.
Rinwa also called for the speedy digitisation of enumeration forms in all districts.
Acceleration of Mapping and Form Verification
DEOs have been told to expedite their mapping work. For voters who submitted enumeration forms without photographs, BLOs must make a fresh effort to collect the missing photos and upload completed forms properly through the BLO app.

Special attention is being given to citizens eligible to become voters for the first time. Those who did not receive enumeration forms and whose names are missing from all Assembly rolls must be encouraged to fill Form-6 along with a declaration. So far, 8 lakh Form-6 applications have already been submitted across the state. BLOs have been instructed to maintain adequate stock of Form-6.
Youth turning 18 years old on January 1, 2026, must also be enrolled to ensure they can participate in the democratic process.
BLOs Directed to Hold Immediate Meetings With BLAs
All Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been asked to hold urgent meetings with their respective BLAs and share the list of unverified voters. Verification must be completed at the earliest, and all enumeration forms must be uploaded 100% on the BLO app.
The updated list will also be made available on district websites. It will be uploaded in segment-wise, searchable format, allowing voters to easily check their details by entering their voter ID number.
With the extended timeline and intensified focus on verification, Uttar Pradesh aims to produce one of its most accurate and dependable electoral rolls ahead of the upcoming election cycle.
